A Fine Early London Ebonised Antique Bracket / Table clock, Circa 1780

A fine and early inverted bell top bracket clock. The Ebonised case has a small carrying handle to the top and four small gilded finials. The arched front door has silk backed sound frets to either side of the small arch and a nice moulding round the glass. The sides have glazed panels and the rear door conforms with the side panels in having a glazed door to view the exquisite engraved back plate of the clock movement.

The dial has a silvered chapter ring with Roman numerals and Arabic repeat numerals outside the minute ring with a strike/silent subsidiary dial to the arch. The center of the dial has a cut out for the date aperture with a well matted center, with the signature for the maker, Hine & Co, Exceter, London.

The eight day gut fusee movement strikes the hour on a bell mounted above the movement. The back plate is profusely engraved with nice bordering and very fine foliate engraving. The movement has six beautifully knopped pillars and early shaped gut fusees, with a verge escapement, also there is a pull-repeat feature. Circa 1780.
